By World Times News Desk | July 6, 2025 | Washington, D.C. - In a dramatic turn on the American political stage, billionaire entrepreneur Elon Musk announced the launch of a new political party—the “America Party”—aimed at challenging what he calls the country’s entrenched “one-party system.” The surprise announcement was made Saturday via his social media platform, X, signaling a seismic shift in Musk’s political posture and his deepening rift with former ally President Donald Trump.

The move comes after months of public clashes between Musk and Trump, who had once enjoyed Musk’s support during the 2024 elections. Their fallout reportedly intensified after Musk, as head of the now-defunct Department of Government Efficiency (DOGE), opposed Trump’s sweeping domestic spending bill, calling it a “debt bomb” that could devastate the U.S. economy.

> “When it comes to bankrupting our country with waste & graft, we live in a one-party system, not a democracy,” Musk wrote in his post. “Today, the America Party is formed to give you back your freedom.”

A New Political Vision

Musk’s declaration included results from a poll he posted on X on Independence Day, asking Americans whether they wanted "independence from the two-party (some would say uniparty) system." The survey garnered over 1.2 million responses, with a two-to-one margin in favor of a new political alternative.

> “By a factor of 2 to 1, you want a new political party—and you shall have it,” Musk added in a follow-up post, reinforcing his commitment with a meme showing a two-headed snake captioned: "End the Uniparty."

While details about the party’s platform remain sparse, Musk hinted at a focused political strategy targeting vulnerable congressional seats. He proposed concentrating efforts on flipping “2 or 3 Senate seats and 8 to 10 House districts,” aiming to gain influence and become the deciding vote on critical legislation.

Trump vs Musk: A Brewing Battle

Tensions between the two high-profile figures reached new heights after Trump’s successful push to pass the controversial “One Big Beautiful Bill,” a sweeping spending package experts estimate will add $3.4 trillion to the national deficit over a decade.

Musk didn’t hold back in his criticism of Republican lawmakers who backed the bill, branding them as hypocrites for supporting federal expansion after campaigning on fiscal restraint.

> “They will lose their primary next year if it is the last thing I do on this Earth,” Musk declared earlier this week.

In response, Trump hinted at retaliatory action, even suggesting the possibility of deporting Musk—who, though a U.S. citizen since 2002, was born in South Africa. “We’ll have to take a look,” Trump said when asked about Musk’s status, also threatening to cut federal funding to Musk’s companies.

Historical Hurdles Ahead

The announcement immediately sparked debate across the political spectrum, with many drawing comparisons to Ross Perot’s 1992 independent presidential run, which some believe cost George H.W. Bush reelection and helped elect Democrat Bill Clinton.

“You are pulling a Ross Perot, and I don’t like it,” one X user commented, echoing broader concerns about vote-splitting in future elections.

Still, Musk appears undeterred, betting that dissatisfaction with the status quo will drive enough momentum to break the two-party stronghold.

What Comes Next?

It remains unclear what immediate impact the America Party will have on the 2026 midterms or the 2028 presidential election. Political analysts note that third-party movements in the U.S. historically struggle to gain traction due to entrenched infrastructure and electoral challenges.

But with Musk’s financial firepower, massive social media reach, and political ambition, the America Party may prove to be more than just a billionaire’s pet project—it could become a disruptive force in a deeply divided political landscape.

For now, one thing is clear: Elon Musk has launched a new campaign—not for Mars, but for Washington.
